28 Days of Nothing-Not so Much

Ughh! This month has been a little bit of a nightmare. I think my expectations of nothing was not really realistic with my work schedule and Valentine's weekend.
I have failed, not miserably but I have failed. Last time I wrote was the about the 5th and 6th. The next week was okay and I did really well. I think I bought a coffee and that was it, $3.85.
However that weekend was not so good. Eric and the kids went down to my mom's house, while I worked the whole Valentine's weekend. It worked out great because I was working crazy long hours and I knew I was not going to see them anyway. But I did spend way more than I had intended. Saturday I went to my friend's consignment shop just to peek around for the first time. I found two vintage dresses. Gorgeous and in perfect condition, these dresses are classic dresses. I need a black dress for a wedding I am in in May and for $40 I could not pass it us. If I bought this dress new it would have been $200 easily.

As for eating out....I did! I was running literally from Friday afternoon until Monday night straight. I am going to say I spent no more than $50 on food and coffee.

So, I have not wanted to write to admit failure but realized I needed to. It is the 19th today and the month is almost over. Nine more days in February. I think I bit off more than I could chew and I will be the first to admit it. I am not going to beat myself up over it though. I did make more dinners at home than normal and I was more conscience of my choices and I think that is good.

Working 40 plus hours a week and trying to cut corners in spending does not really happen. I am glad I tried and failed in a sense. I sometimes set unrealistic goals and then beat myself up over not reaching them. I realize that now and I am happy to say I can not do it all. I try to believe I can but not so much! This season of my life it totally different than any other I have had.

Hopefully you are able to learn from my mistakes and make good goals.
Obtainable goals!

Day 5 & Day 6 of 28 of Nothing

Saturday the 5th and Sunday the 6th

Saturday was a great day! I had an eye appointment at 11:30. I have not seen a eye doctor for about ten years. I have noticed my eyes being more tired at the end of the day. I think my iPhone is making my eye sight worse. It causes me to strain sometimes and my eyes did not bother me until I got it. Oh well.
So I went and got my eyes dilated for the first time too. Well that was interesting to say the least. I have always been able to focus and see anything but for my eyesight to go it was really frustrating. Wow! How do you people who need glasses 24/7 do it? I have a lot of respect for you all now knowing a small percent of what you go through. I discovered I do need a slight prescription and waited for the dilation to end.

After about twenty minutes I drove to my surprise. I went over to a day spa for a nice Valentine's day surprise! I got a massage and spent the afternoon at a spa doing nothing! What a great gift! It was the best massage I have ever had!
I went to work and had a decent night. That was Saturday.

Sunday was perfectly mellow. Kira unfortunately had a slight fever, so we stayed home from church. I cleaned the house and we hung out. Our friend from San Clemente was up and he came over for a little bit and watched the game. On Sunday nights we normally go into the restaurant, have dinner and I check to make sure everything is going okay. So Enzo and I went to eat at my work for dinner for a date. Our date night was sweet and super special.

Saturday: $0 I am not counting the massage since it was a gift.
Sunday: I did leave a $20 tip for our dinner

Total:$20

It is funny to me that because I am consciously trying not to spend, it is all I think about and want to do.
How are you doing? Maybe you are still spending but not as much? I would love to hear.

Day 4

Friday was rough! It started out like a nice day. I had coffee with a girlfriend- $8.05. So much for the non-frufru drink. Work was busy at lunch and had a great shift. I went to pick up Enzo at school and then it began. He did not nap and was a nightmare. Poor bub, I know he was tired but he was beyond cranky. He was whining and crying over anything that did not go his way. We go and pick up Kira and it gets worse. When he is cranky, she is the worse thing to add to the mix. Kira antagonizes him like no other sister has before. SO for the one hour I was home with them I had to do damage control every five seconds. Needless to say I was done and actually anxious to get back to work.
Eric dropped me off and straight into work mode I went. We was slammed last night and had a very interesting mix of guests. Things did not run smooth. It was super to be busy and realize we need more people working, but it sucks when you can not get in a flow and make it smooth. Oh well!

So thankfully for me I get off work earlier on Fridays for now. Eric was still up in Atascadero and I was without a car. I decided to go and get a glass of wine and a little bit to eat. I know, I know I blew it! But it was so worth it! I had a perfect time and finished right when Eric came back into town. I needed a little treat and oh well, I am not perfect and I do not expect to do this anytime soon.

Coffee-$8.05
One happy mommy-$27.86
$35.91

Okay not a great start but not horrible.
Plus I realized we are not doing anything for Valentine's day because I am working all weekend (but mostly because I can not stand the holiday!).
Most people spend $40 on flowers!
Anyways here is Mr. Linky if you want to join in the fun with your posts.

Day 2 and Day 3

Wednesday was a great day. I was able to keep strong and not buy anything.
I worked a double and it was a busy day. Busy days keep my mind off wanting something.

Thursday was chocked full of everything. Another double today and I just got home. My feet are killing me tonight. I really want and need to buy support hose for my legs but it will have to wait. I really wanted to buy coffee today and a little snack while at Kinko's getting Valentine's day flyers done. Why do they have junk at the counter? For some odd reason I really wanted Mentos and a Snickers. Ugh! But I stood my ground.

Total spent: $0

Yeah! I did forget about a coffee date tomorrow morning with a friend so I just get a basic coffee and not a frilly frufru drink.

How are you all doing?

28 Days of Nothing-Year 3

I have missed you all. December was crazy, not just with Christmas and traveling but work and getting into a routine. We are now at the end of January and it has flown by. I miss writing and miss interacting online. I have an iPhone through work now and I seem to do all of my online stuff on it but it is very difficult to type a post with my phone....ha ha.

So I am hear to say hello and tell you my hopes of next month. As you know I have done 28 days of nothing for the past two years and I want to do it this next month as well. I am sending out a challenge for anyone who wants to participate.

Guidelines:
1. Honesty: the most important thing about not spending money and writing about it is honesty. If you are not truthful with us then what is the point? It is a struggle not spending for me but knowing I have accountability here I am more likely to not buy anything. But if I slip and spend then you are the first to hear about it.

2. Your bills and basic food are not part of the 28 days. Obviously, you need to pay the gas bill, car payment or have food on the table. That is not part of the "nothing" challenge. However, your morning coffee drink and bagel at overpriced bucks is not a necessity. The new lip gloss or pair of shoes are the challenge. Saying NO to anything extra.

3. Post about it and be as detailed or general i.e.
Feb 2-day 2 I spent $1.65 on bottled water at the gas station.
It is up to you if you want to go into what you saw and wanted to buy. I think it helps to share with each other struggles it keeps it real and not holier than thou attitude.

4. Keep a running total of what you have been spending. It is the easiest if you have it in your post and then at the end of the month add them up. You will be so surprised at the extra money in your bank account at the end of the month.

You can link up using Mister Linky on Day 1.

Think about it and leave a comment if you want to participate.
Thanks for thinking about it.

Day 28-Last Day of Nothing- As Close as Possible

We got up early and had my uncle take us up to the Irvine Train station. We caught the train to LA and then from LA to SLO. It was a long trip. We were all tired and missed dad and wanted to be home. Enzo had a little meltdown in LA Union Station while I was checking bags. I could not do anything to soothe him and I could not walk away because we were in line. Brother, I do not want to do that again. Other than that they were angels on the train. We got home and they hugged dad and did not let go for awhile. So sweet.

We got home and I took a two hour nap, much needed. I had to go to the store last night because I would not have a car until Tuesday and the house was bare. So I ended our 28 days of nothing at 6:00pm.

This has been much harder than last year and I am not sure why. Maybe because we were on such a tight budget and then to get extra money, it was burning a hole in my pocket. When I say burning a hole I mean there were things that we really needed and I felt obligated not to get them because of my 28 days. I ended up buying the fabric and I am glad I did because it was a deal and we need clothes for Kira.

I reevaluated our food budget and changed it to $400 month and considering all the changes we did in our diet I totaled our food to $421.18. I spent $183.26 on other essentials other than food at the stores. Considering what we bought, I feel good about it. I am excited to see how eating a plant based diet changes our grocery costs. I am going to shop weekly so that I do not waste anything by buying to much.

Spending: Nothing

Menu:
Breakfast:
Smoothies and rice bread toast

Snack:
Clementines

Lunch:
Tomatoes-Enzo
Dried Mango-Kira
rice crackers

Snack:
Almonds
Mango

Wow! I can not believe this month is over. I have learned a lot and have been humbled too. I will probably do it again next February and maybe tweak a few things.
Thanks for coming along on the journey. Hope you were challenged or encouraged. Let me know what you did, if anything.

Day 27

Today we had a family breakfast. Everyone pitched in and brought on thing and we had a wonderful time. I made my GF pancakes and they were a hit. I even made them with egg substitute and rice milk. I quadrupled the recipe and it was barely enough. I probably could have made six times the recipe and it would have been perfect. The kids all played so good together and I got to visit with my grandma, who will be 93 years young on the 7th of March.

I worked at the restaurant and it was not very busy but it was fun. I miss going to work and having that interaction with other adults. I came home packed.

Spending: $6.47 I bought a salad at work, I miss the food too

Menu:
Brunch:
GF Pancakes
Home potatoes
Fruit and oj

Snack:
dried mango

Dinner:
Salad and Twirly Noodle with Marinara

Late Snack:
Roasted beet salad with goat cheese and nuts-me

I could not pass up a half price salad at the restaurant

GF Best Pancakes Ever with no animal products
Use
1 cup Rice Flour
3/4 cup Potato Starch
1/4 cup Tapioca Flour/Starch
This equals 2 cups of flour equivalent to 2 cups of wheat flour.
Then I used a regular pancake recipe not a gluten free recipe, Ah ha!
The best pancakes I think I have ever had.

Here is the recipe:

3 cup Flour-mixture
2 T 1 tsp baking powder
2 tsp salt
2 Tbsp Agave syrup
1 tsp Xanthan gum
2 1/2 cup milk- I use rice milk
2 egg substitute**
1/4 c 2 Tbsp oil

**I used 1 Tbsp of Potato Starch and 3Tbsp water per egg, mix separately and add with wet ingredients

Add all dry ingredients and mix. Then add all wet and mix well. If too thick add a little water or more milk until desired consistency. Enjoy. They are so good you do not even need syrup or butter I think. I put coconut oil on the kids. We call coconut oil white butter now.

Day 26

Today we had so much fun. It was a lazy morning but ended up a full day. We went to cousins house to play. They play so well together. I love it when you know your kids can play in the other room with kids and not have to worry what they are doing. We would peek in and see them getting along so well. There was not one fight or struggle about any toys or type of play. I love it. We drove home and hit an unusual amount of traffic. We just thought it was after lunch and people were driving back to work. I got a little worse and I decided to take the side streets home instead of the freeway. On the way to the side streets I notice a sign saying the freeway is closed. Okay, maybe they are working on it but how very odd. We get to the secret side streets and we are in a parking lot. It took us almost forty minutes to go 6.5 miles. What is going on? I put on 1070 AM News Radio and after about five minutes they went to traffic. Supposedly, there was a grenade on the one of the lanes of the Southbound 5 Freeway. They closed down both sides of the freeway and had to have a bomb squad come out to diffuse it. CRAZY!!! Luckily it was a dud and no one was hurt but boy oh boy did it effect traffic. The 5 freeway Northbound was a parking lot and my coworker who lives in Encinitas, was suppose to be at work at 4:30 and did not get there until close to 7:30. Oh well.

I worked at the restaurant tonight and had a blast. I am a little tired but feel pretty good considering it was not too busy. But I had fun seeing people and getting looks like, didn't you move? what are you doing here? That is always fun.

Tomorrow morning we are having family over and having a pancake breakfast. I love breakfast, I mean who doesn't love a good pancake. It was free pancake day at IHOP on Tuesday. People like pancakes and I am one of them.

Spending: $40 for babysitting but more of a necessity but my tips will cover that easily.

Menu:

Breakfast:
Smoothie

Snack:
Blueberries, Dried Mango and Rice Crackers

Lunch:
El Pollo Loco BRC Burritoes GF Style*

Dinner:

Tomatoes and Avocado
Leftover Noodles-Kids

Cesear Salad at work- family meal-me
Stirfry leftovers- as late night snack-me

* Uncle Matt treated El Pollo Loco. We ate off the $1 menu and it was a deal
I ordered the BRC Burrito/Bean, Rice and Cheese. But I asked for no cheese and no flour tortilla and corn instead. They put it in the side cup and give you two corn tortillas all for a $1. It takes awhile to explain what I want but they do it for me everytime I have asked. Sweet as deal!

It does not hurt to ask for them to do it what is the worst thing they do, say no.
Signing of with throbbing feet good night.

Day 25- 28 Days of Nothing

We went to Disneyland today! We had a blast. There was hardly anybody there. We went on Peter Pan first and there was about a thirty minute wait and then off to the Carousel, Dumbo, and Winnie the Pooh. My dear uncle treated us to Pizza at the Pizza Port. They have gluten free pizzas and pasta. It was so yummy. We went over to California Adventure next. I had never been on Monster Inc. so we headed there first, pretty cute. Then off to Bug's Life for the Train, Ladybugs, and Animal Crackers. Unlce Matt had never been on Toy Story so we had to do that, it had the second longest line of about forty minutes. Last off we went back to Disneyland and did the Jungle Cruise and Small World. We took the Monorail out of the park and to Downtown Disney in order to avoid crowds on the tram. Uncle surprised the kids with a little souvenir from the Lego Store. It was a full day but so much fun. Every other ride we only waited five ten minutes max. Great time to go to Disneyland.

Day 24

Today was great. We went to the park and met friends and played for about three hours. Then came home to have cousins come over to play for about an hour and a half. What a fun day. My uncle flew in tonight and tomorrow we go to Disneyland!!! Our last time before our annual passes expire and we have to start paying for Enzo too. So I am not spending on tickets ;)

Best news of the day....I got a serger! My dearest friend has a serger and I asked if she was selling it and if so how much. My sweet, sweet girl told me that I could have it on two conditions: First if she needed something made I would make it. Check. Secondly, if she ever decided to get back into sewing and wanted it back we would go halves on a new one for her or something to that effect. Check.

Sweet as!! I have a serger and I can now make professional products and get my Etsy store going!!! Sorry for all of the exclamation marks but if you can't tell I am ecxited!!! What an answer to prayer and a confirmation to do what I have wanted to do from my home and bring in more income. Thank you Lord Jesus.

So stoked.

Spending: Nada

Menu:
Breakfast:
Fruit smoothies and rice bread toast for the kiddos with cocnut oil on them instead of butter

Snack:
Clementines
Big Raisins-Dates

Lunch:
2 bananas and rice crackers-Kira
Tomatoes, pine nuts and rice crackers-Enzo

I kept asking the kids throughout the day if they wanted a snack or fruit or if they were hungry and they always replied nope, not hungry. So I figured the grow spurt is gone and they are back to eating normal.

Dinner:
1/2 Avocado each
Rice noodles with Marinara sauce

They had baths and were in bed and out by 7:00. It was a full day and it will be another full day tomorrow, can't wait

Monday, February 22, 2010

Day 22

I cleaned house and did laundry all day in preparation for our trip tomorrow. I do not know what it is I have to clean my house before I leave on a trip. Why that is is beyond me, maybe I just think that it is clean for more than a day :) Any who we are almost packed and I have to make a quick trip to the store for a few treats for the train. We board at 6:45 am and come into San Juan Capistrano at 1:40 pm. So roughly seven hours on the train. I pack a couple toys, coloring books and reading books. We try to stay entertained as long as possible with that, it usually lasts just past Santa Barbara and then we watch a movie on the portable DVD player. Oh yes I love that thing for traveling. Then lunch and a couple of walks around the train and we are up for maybe one more short movie, like a Berenstain Bears episode. I gave the pep talk today about how they have to really listen and obey momma on the train because of all the people. They have been so good on the past two times we have done this that I am not too worried.

Spending: Planning on $10 at the treats at the store.

Menu:

Breakfast:
Fruit Smoothies

Snack:
Ants on a boat
Banana sliced long ways with sun butter and raisin
Kids loved it

Lunch:
More smoothie and oranges and bananas

Snack:
Popcorn with herb salt

Dinner:
Salad-Kira and tomatoes-Enzo
Bean burritos and no sour cream the kids did not even ask for it Yee Haw!
Grilled veggies on the salad with baked tortilla chips so tasty

Okay I better skedaddle and finish my laundry, make my enchiladas for the boys tomorrow and pack....ahhh feeling a little overwhelmed.

We leave the house at 5:45-6:00 and I already put the kids in their comfy clothes to sleep in and we will be out like trout in the morning.

I will post from San Clemente for the rest of the month.
Adios!

Sunday, February 21, 2010

Day 21

Okay I am done with my drastic detox and I feel so much better. I was going to to seven but I did six and a half. I actually love eating this way. Basically you graze on fruit and veggies all day, mostly fruit for me and then have a salad/raw veggies and a cooked starch of potato, brown rice, polenta or quinoa. This is our goal to continue to eat this way. I am excited to make it more of a lifestyle and hopefully it will not fizzle out after six months, like I have tended to do. I think I have to be more inventive with recipes and try new things but don't over make something too much too and burned out on it. I think that was the biggest thing I did the last couple times.

Today we went to church at the 9 am service and it was really good. He was talking about how John was told to eat the scroll in Revelation chapter 10.

Rev 10:1011 Then I took the little book out of the angel's hand and ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth. But when I had eaten it, my stomach became bitter. And he said to me, "You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, tongues, and kings.
Now Byran was saying that John probably did not literally take a fork and knife to the scroll and begin eating it. But if you think about how His word, the bible is our daily bread it makes more sense that he was mentally digesting if that makes sense.

Bryan's three points to it were this:
1. Sweetness in the Mouth
When we read the scriptures it is sweet to our soul
.

How refreshed do we feel when we have been in His word before the day starts. It is like we are ahead of everyone else and prepared for the day. John Piper said something to the effect that, We love scriptures because we love our eyes. We love to see God's beauty. How true is that we love living in beautiful places, love beautiful things. God's Word is beautiful and sweet.

2. Bitterness in the Stomach
Yes, God blesses us but disobedience hurts the relationship.

When we sin we put distance between our relationship. I sometimes think sin is like eating junk food. It tastes so good and you know you shouldn't eat. But you eat it anyway and then it tastes so good you just keep eating until you look at the empty box of chocolate donuts and think to yourself, did I just do that? Then about twenty minutes later when you stomach catches up with your mouth you think to yourself what was I thinking I feel awful. *Okay so maybe I did not eat all of the donuts in one sitting but I did eat most of them and I was sick as a dog for two hours.

That is how sin is. We think, oh we can do that it isn't a major sin, like looking at a Victoria Secret magazine for guys or wanting a house, car or clothes for us girls. But what happens? The guy ends up dwelling on the photos and then might move to another type of magazine or searches out certain websites. Or for us girls we like someone's house, car or clothes and we get dissatisfied. We start grumbling and mumbling and are not thankful for what we have. This is covetousness and it is a sin. We may start our innocently but end up in a real debacle. We feel sick to our stomach.

I remember the week before I came back to the Lord. I was in an awful state. I was literally sick to my stomach over the choices I had made for the last eight years. They started out not so bad and over the years I did not even recognized who was staring at me in the mirror. God's redemption is amazing and I know I am white a snow now. But I have to be careful not to slip into the same pattern as before.

Joel 2:25 "So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten
Thank God for this promise!

3.Commission to Proclaim its Message
Where is your joy? Why are we not excited about sharing the Gospel?

Why are are we not sharing? I ask myself that a lot. I really try to get know people and get involved in their lives and try to share the gospel and use words if necessary. But I know there are times to evangelize. I just hope that I step up to the plate when they arise.
What are you doing to share your faith?

Day 20

Today we enjoyed the beautiful weather. I guess it was supposed to rain but it clearly did not. I truly just enjoyed the kids and played and did some dishes but that was it.

I did start sewing this awesome picnic blanket for my friend's wedding gift. I had got discounted vinyl tablecloth with a fabric backing that has a pink background with small brown polka dots all over. That will be the side touching the grass. Then for the top, it is a brown background with large geometric flowers in pink, yellow and turquoise and such. All of their favorite colors. It was a little hard because of the stickiness of the fabric. But I think it will turn out good. I am going to fix one seam and straighten it out more tomorrow. I love making people gifts so much more than just buying it. Mainly, because it is more personal and one of a kind and secondly because it cheaper. When I am finished I will post pictures.

Spending: nothing

Menu:
Breakfast:
Eggs-kids
Smoothie

Snack:
Smoothie

Lunch:
Apples
oranges

Snack:
nuts

Dinner:
Apples
Baked Potatoes and Salad

We grazed all day on fruit and everyone was really good.

I was so thankful, I talked to Eric about going more vegetarian eating and he was totally on board. I told him I would still buy his lunch items but everything else would be vegetarian and the occasion Tuesday night with meat for the neighbors meal. He was so sweet and told me whatever we need to do for the kids diet to do. He has done a vegetarian diet before. This way I will be able to keep our grocery bill down by not having to buy both types of food. I'll be meal planning and figuring out how what I need to buy and list it all. I am nerdy list maker and number cruncher, so that should be fun.
Tonight, Eric is with a good friend and I am watching t.v. and being Miss Blogs-a-lot ;) Enjoy your Sunday.

Friday, February 19, 2010

Day 19

Today we had speech therapy and she was evaluating Enzo before he moves out of her program to preschool program. He did above his age in the articulation and part of another section. He will continue two weeks from now. Very cool!

The neighbors took the kids again today for about an hour while I cooked dinner. I had such a quiet, peaceful hour. Love those guys.

Spending: Nothing
I am determined to find a way to make my budget work with eating more of a vegetarian diet. I searched all of these blogs on being a frugal vegetarian or frugal gluten free. Not! The frugal Gluten free was a site that made meals for under $20. Um? I need a meal for four under $7, not $20 a meal. For that my monthly grocery budget for just dinner would be $600. So I am on a mission in order to make this work and get us back on track.

Menu:

Breakfast:
Smoothie
I used half the juice I normally and add four oranges from my neighbor tree(I have permission).

Snack:
bananas and nuts

Lunch:
Veggie Faces,
Soup with no tortillas and they gobbled it up.

Snack:
raisins and nuts

Dinner:
Salad
Rice Noodles with tomato sauce. I used some canned tomatoes with fresh tomatoes and add about a cup of the tomato soup from the other night. So yummy

Veggie Faces
I did this yesterday and they were so excited to eat their veggies, I had to do it again.
Kira wanted a princess and Enzo wanted a raccoon.
For the Princess: I made cucumber slices for eyes with olives on top
mushroom slice for a nose half grape tomatoes for lips and carrot sticks for hair.

For the Raccoon: Cucumber slices for eyes and olives on top with mushroom slices all around for a mask. Hummus for the nose. Half grape tomatoes for a mouth.

Day 18-28 Days of Nothing

I was motivated to get things done today and almost accomplished everything. Except laundry, maybe tomorrow.
Kids are feeling good and noses are running from detoxing from dairy. Kira is having better BM's and Enzo is happier. We are grazing more throughout the day and I think his blood sugar levels are staying more even. We are eating every two hours and I think we will have to continue with that to make him stay happy.

I am having to reevaluate of food situation and be prepared for eating this way. I know I feel so much better eating this way and it is easier. We have a smoothie or fresh fruit for breakfast. Snack on fruit throughout the day. Have a large plate of veggies and hummus for lunch a little bit of cooked veggies. Snack more on fruit between mealtime. For dinner we have been doing salad and baked potatoes or cooked veggies too. I love that the kids like the same thing over and over and it makes it easier to plan food.

I am trying to give them two options for snacks, clementines or bananas.
I found out our neighbors orange tree no one is picking it. I picked about ten yesterday and there are about thirty to forty more waiting to be picked. I am going to get a ladder and pick them today. I cut off the peel and put in the fridge. I figure if I have a too many I will blend and freeze it like oj. What a cheaper way to add to our smoothies.

Spending: Trader Joe's $39.01 Fruit and veggies

That brings our total grocery spending to $293.60
Well I am over by about $114. That is a lot and I am bummed but like I said we were not planning on having dietary issues. So there you go unexpected expenses, to funny.
Hopefully next month I can be more exact on my budgeting. I think we might have to up the grocery allowance but in the long run we won't be paying for health bills because we are healthy for our diet/eating lifestyle.
** I have changed my monthly allowance for food to $400, it is more realistic and everything I had read says so. updated 3/1/10**
Menu:
Fruit Smoothie and I have been using less than normal on the fruit and adding ice to make it go a little farther.

Snack:
Clementines and Bananas

Lunch:
Veggie Faces with hummus
Tomato soup and two corn tortillas each kid

Snack:
nuts and bananas

Dinner:
Salad and Baked Potatoes with Broccoli.
Red Bell Pepper sauce and Hummus on potatoes instead of sour cream

I actually have lost a little weight. I was not meaning to but it is always a nice bonus. I miss my coffee, more for the ritual of it, smell, taste and warmth. Not so much having any caffeine withdrawals but missing the ritual.

Thursday, February 18, 2010

Day 17

We had an appointment for Enzo with his new Orthopedic. It went well and the doctor said his hips looked good and his leg length is good too. Praise God.

Spending: $22.53 Fruit and veggies, I needed to buy more because of the diet change for Kira. She is feeling so much better after only two days.

Menu:
Breakfast:
Fruit smoothie and almonds

Snack:
Raisins

Lunch:
veggies and homemade hummus

Day 16

Had a great sunny, HOT day. We made birthday countdown calendars, because Kira has been asking when her birthday is coming. So she drew a great birthday cake and I made it into a calendar and we will cross out days as we go. 30 days until Enzo's three and 44 days until she is five. Really? My baby is going to be, hold you hand up and count um, five. I have 44 days to deal with it.

Spending: $20 for the haircut that I have been waiting for, yeah. I will post pics tomorrow.

Menu:
Breakfast:
Yellow and white eggs and tortillas

Snack:
Smoothie

Lunch:
Veggies

Snack:
Raisins

Dinner:
BBQ Chicken, potato salad and bread for the guys.

So Kira was complaining her tummy hurt this morning. I don't get it, she eats really good but is still having problems with her BM's. So Eric and I agreed to take her off Casein for a longer period to see how her skin clears up and her BM's start working. So today we did mainly veggies and fruit except for dinner. I made the bbq sauce from scratch and the kids loved it because it was not spicy. She started to feel better after a couple hours but we are going to continue for at least two weeks of 75% fruit and veggies.

Day 15- 28 Days of Nothing

I felt like crud today. All of the bad eating I have been doing finally caught up with me. I was crabby and tired. Time for change. I realize that I eat really for about six to seven months, then pretty good for four to five months. Then the last month or two it is horrible. I mean it is not nearly as bad as I used to eat but it is bad for me. Obviously, you all saw the signs, I cooked with LARD for Pete's sake!! I knew I was heading down the road too. So this week is detox week for me. Then I realized that I detoxed this time last year too. That makes sense, so hear I go. I started today after breakfast when I started feeling horrible, with my barley grass juice and carrot juice every couple hours. So I will be following this detox program. I will update on it a little too.

Day 13 Not Really Nothing

Today I had a friend from church come over for lunch and had a nice time of fellowship. The church was putting on a Parent's Night Out and for $2 a kid they would watch the kids from 5:30 to 8:00. It was a pajama, pizza party. I made GF pizza for the kids and took them over. We decided to stay home and have a nice date night dinner here.

We splurged but time. We could have eaten out for three times as much but I bought all the fixings for a dinner at home instead. I felt a little guilty but we never go out on dates, so I am working on getting over it.

Spending:$50, I know it was a lot but if you figure we were to have a real babysitter come for 2 1/2 hours at $9 a hour that comes out to $22.50 then we would have had only $27.50 left for Denny's. So I did splurge but I am glad we did for the time that we had.

Menu:

Breakfast:
Cereal
Bananas

Snack:
raisins
almonds

Lunch:
Fruit salad-my friend brought
green salad and baked potatoes

Snack:
nibbled on pizza

Dinner:
GF Pizza for the kids

Shallot Crusted Steak with Blue Cheese butter and Mushrooms
New Potatoes with fresh herbs
Asparagus
made with butter, butter and more butter.

As we ate, I asked Eric if it was good and he said it was better than the restaurant that I used to work at....because it was made with love. Ahhhh! So sweet.

I asked if his steak was cooked right and he said perfect, with a big sigh of relief I told him it was the first steak I have ever cook. I have cooked slices of meat but never a steak so I was happy.

It was yummy and intimate. I picked up the kids and they had a blast too.
